As London Fashion week comes to a stylish stop this week, models in their fabulous forties and fifties protested outside making headlines.
Brandishing placards proclaiming 'Grow Up London Fashion Week!' the women were protesting at the lack of age diversity throughout the event. Model Jilly Johnson stated that she was still 'fit for work' at the age of 63 and argued that designers were missing the opportunity and at risk of alienating the successful older female still passionate about fashion. Further, some studies suggested that this demographic, dubiously dubbed 'The Grey Pound', made up to 50% of spending.
Whilst the women were protesting the lack of representation on the runway, it can be argued the industry has made moves in the right direction with older models such as Yasmin Le Bon (Armarni) and Stella Tennant (Saint Laurent) heading recent campaigns.
Elsewhere over on Instagram, popular Kat of 'doesmybumlook40' (below) was voted Best Dressed Street Style at LFW AW17 by Refinery29, proving there is a growing number of highly popular 40+ fashionistas with a large following proffering style inspo for those still passionate about fashion, no matter their age.
